Biography

Aric Noboa serves as the President and Executive Producer of Discovery Learning Alliance (DLA), a nonprofit organization using the power of media to transform education and improve lives in marginalized communities around the world. Established by Discovery (home of Discovery Channel, HGTV, Science, Eurosport, etc.), DLA has created dynamic learning environments for over 2 million students in 16 countries, improving student outcomes, teacher effectiveness and community engagement. Through entertaining movies and television programs, DLA generates social change and engages tens of millions of people around education, life skills, gender, the environment and public health.

Aric has produced a variety of media to advance specific social impact goals including: Inside Story, a scripted feature film about football, love and HIV, described as “a rousing success” by LA Weekly, and now the most widely seen film ever in Africa; The Lucky Specials, a narrative feature designed to help audiences respond to tuberculosis and has broadcast in 22 countries; and “Discovery +,” an entertaining magazine-style talk show format (watched by more than 10 million people) which he created in Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria to demonstrate the value of girls’ education.

Current media projects include a short-form, animated series focused on life skills for young people and two new narrative features.

Aric established the Transformational Media for Social Impact Leadership Summit at St. George’s House Windsor Castle, serves on the board of FilmAid, and together with international production teams has received industry honors and festival awards from Los Angeles to Zanzibar. Before Discovery, Aric was legislative staff to a member of the US House of Representatives, a community health volunteer in Benin, and an assistant teacher.
