Biography

Chief Eliseu was elected Supreme Chief of the Brazilian Wai Wai tribe over a decade ago. He currently leads his tribe of over 3,000 people who live spread out in one of the most remote territories in the Brazilian Amazon. The Wai Wai lands occupy an area the size of the Netherlands and Belgium combined and are characterized by their pristine forests and diverse tribal cultures. Chief Eliseu has led his people in protecting their territories but also in finding new partnerships to help his people find innovative solutions to attract investments based on the region's biodiversity as an alternative to extractive industries.
