President and Founder, Joan and Lewis Platt Foundation
Joan Platt is the Founder and President of the Joan and Lewis Platt foundation whose mission is to support organizations that advocate for human rights with a focus on women and children, and to promote economic opportunity and civil society in developing countries.
Ms. Platt currently serves on the International Board of Human Rights Watch as well as the executive committee of Northern California HRW. She is the vice-chair of the advisory council of the Women’s Rights Division of Human Rights Watch and a member of the advisory council of the Human Rights Center at the University of California at Berkeley. In addition, she is a member of the boards of The Fund for Global Human Rights, The Philanthropy Workshop and the Lewis and Joan Platt East Palo Alto YMCA.
The intersection of human rights and documentary film is an area that Ms. Platt supports with grants and investment. She is a supporter of the Sundance Film Festival, a member of Impact Partners and makes grants to films that reveal and document human rights abuses.
