Biography

Macarena is a dedicated to economic opportunity and prosperity for Mexico’s deprived communities. She joined Prospera in 2011, the first social enterprise in Guadalajara, Mexico. Prospera aims to improve the income of marginalised women in Mexico by empowering female led micro-businesses and connecting them to consumers. In May 2012, she became Prospera’s COO helping them to grow 268% by the end of 2013. Prospera has trained around 8,000 Mexican women and helped them become successful micro-entrepreneurs, whilst increasing women’s incomes eight times and engaging with more than 1,000 consumers/citizens to help them reach their potential.
Macarena is listed as an Endeavor entrepreneur as well as an Ashoka, Unreasonable, Echoing Green and GSBI Fellow. She holds an Industrial Engineering degree from ITESO Universidad Jesuita de Guadalajara.
