Shivani Garg Patel

Principal, Skoll Foundation


Shivani Garg Patel is a Principal at the Skoll Foundation, where she identifies and advises Skoll Award Social Entrepreneurs on their path to lasting social change. Shivani is a former Microsoft product manager, McKinsey strategy consultant turned social entrepreneur and advisor.

Most recently, she co-founded and led Samahope, an organization that invests in local medical providers working to provide critical medical care to women and children in poor communities globally. Samahope built the capacity of these providers, enabling access to care to over 17,000 patients in need. In 2015, Samahope joined forces with, a platform for global health funding and awareness powered by Johnson & Johnson.

Her technology-driven social innovation work spans the Grameen Foundation, World Bank and World Health Organization. She has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a B.A. in Cognitive Science from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Management. Shivani is also the under-caffeinated mother of a young daughter and lives in San Francisco with her family.
