Wash Tacoma, Visiting Prof at Central U. Tibetan Studies India, Honorary Prof at the U. of Hong Kong, former Assist. Prof. of Medicine at the U. Wash, fellow at Mind and Life Institute, and consults for Max Planck Institute Leipzig on compassion training. He is founder and pres. of Altruism in Medicine Institute and founder and chairman of Human Values Institute in Japan. For 30 years he has been providing free medical care to the poor up to the highest lamas including the Dalai Lama. He has completed many meditation retreats including a three-year retreat. His brain was studied at Princeton U. and U. Wisc. Madison as a long-term meditator. He was ordained by the Dalai Lama, and combines his work as a monk and doctor lecturing around the world. Barry works in juvenile prisons in Japan. He teaches intensive compassion training to doctors in hospitals and medical schools, leads changemakers-leadership workshops, and leads meditation retreats at Mt. Fuji. He delivered two TEDx talks and medical grand rounds on compassion at Stanford - http://ccare.stanford.edu/videos/invited-lecture-barry-kerzin-md/ and at Univ. of Pitt., and surgical grand rounds. He lectured at Oxford and Cambridge U., U.K. medical schools, and is training 16,000 nurses at UPMC. He has written Tibetan Buddhist Prescription for Happiness, and Mind and Matter: Dialogue between Two Nobel Laureates (Japanese), and No Fear No Death: The Power of Compassion, and Nagarjuna’s Wisdom: A Guide to Practice (in press). He has written many book chapters and many interviews for radio, and TV.
