The Future of Work

Speakers

  • Co-Founder, Loomio
Ben Knight is co-founder of Loomio, a social enterprise building an online tool for collaborative decision-making and democratic organizing used by thousands of activist networks, businesses, community organizations and governments worldwide. Ben has an academic background in the evolution of collective intelligence, a practical background in grassroots community organizing, and a passion for the potential of technology to spur positive social change. He was closely involved with the Occupy movement in 2011, which exposed him to the massively empowering results of collective decision-making on a large scale, and the possibility that online tools could make participatory democracy a part of everyday life.

At the Institute for the Future -- a Silicon Valley-based nonprofit -- Bettina works on a variety of projects, including the Future of Learning and Work, the Future of Philanthropy, and co-founded the Governance Futures Lab. Bettina's current research examines the roles of creative social (third) spaces and experiential futures in generating greater human learning.
  • Executive Producer / Principal Program Manager, Microsoft Envisioning
I work on a small multi-disciplinary design team at Microsoft that thinks deeply about the ‘Future of Work’. We explore how global trends and emerging technologies may change the way we live and work in the future. We think by making, and engage partners in thoughtful dialog through design salons, vision and documentary videos, and immersive experiential prototypes in Microsoft’s Envisioning Center on our main corporate campus. I’ve been designing and building productivity-focused products for 25+ years. Past projects include Microsoft Excel, the Tablet PC, and various volunteer projects in the Education, Arts, and Human Rights spaces. I’m at SWF this year to meet new people, share ideas, and explore how technology can be used to enhance collaboration and accelerate the impact of organizations operating in the social good space.
