We at the Skoll Foundation are deeply shaken and angered by the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks, and of so many other Black Americans. Injustice and violence have been sanctioned and perpetrated against Black Americans since before the founding of the United States. We all must engage in the fight to eliminate racial oppression and the systems that support it.
The Movement for Black Lives has elevated to the global stage the systemic racism and inequities that have long existed in America. Racial injustice must be confronted before the United States can claim that its values and Constitution are aligned.
As a Foundation committed to building a sustainable world of peace and prosperity for all, we embrace this moment of reckoning to reconsider our role and re-envision our potential for impact. We must demand more of ourselves—now and moving into the future.
This moment presents an opportunity to help advance transformational social change and tackle systemic racism and injustice.
We are heartened by the rising tide of voices from around the world demanding justice and systemic change and are committed to finding ways to partner with these change leaders.
The Skoll Foundation is listening closely to Black voices, is learning, and is committing to investing in solutions with enduring impact.
