Elissa Golberg

Biography

Elissa Golberg was appointed Assistant Deputy Minister for Strategic Policy at Global Affairs Canada in September 2017. She is also currently the department's Champion for Innovation, Chief Results and Delivery Officer, and Head of Performance Management. Prior to this role, she was Assistant Deputy Minister - Partnerships for Development Innovation.

Ms. Golberg has served in a number of capacities for Canada, including as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva and to the Conference on Disarmament, Representative of Canada in Kandahar (Afghanistan), and as head of the government's Stabilization and Reconstruction Task Force. Ms. Golberg has successfully pioneered complex policy initiatives, effectively managed multi-million dollar security and development programs, and led multi-disciplinary teams working on significant international peace and security, human rights, emergency management, and sustainable development challenges.

Ms. Golberg has a Master's degree in International Relations. She is a recipient of the NATO ISAF General Service medal, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal, and several awards for Foreign Policy and Public Service Excellence. She has named a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader in 2010, and is currently a member of the Forum’s Global Future Council on International Governance, Public-Private Cooperation and Sustainable Development. She has published articles on humanitarian, fragile state and public policy related matters
