Gillian is a social design practitioner, beginning her career in graphic design, documentary photography and film, before transitioning into design thinking and management.
Most recently she worked at the Cape Craft & Design Institute where she established a new design thinking division and drove many large-scale public sector collaborations in healthcare, education and the built environment. During this time she was also the youngest board member of the implementing agency of World Design Capital 2014.
Prior to this Gillian established Make Content design studio. The studio specialised in using design as a tool to advocate for social change, creating visual communication for the non-profit sector, including infographics, publications, web documentaries and photo essays.
She completed a three-year Higher Diploma in Visual Communication at the AAA School of Advertising (Cape Town) and then pursued a Social Science Degree in Anthropology and Earth and Environmental Science at the University of Cape Town. She is currently reading for her MBA at Saïd Business School, Oxford.
