Biography

Hayfa Matar is a diplomat from the Kingdom of Bahrain. In 2006, she was a counsellor to the President of the 61st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Between 2007 and 2012 she was an advisor to the Foreign Minister and was centrally involved in Bahrain's foreign policy both regionally and internationally. During her tenure, she was a first hand witness both as a citizen and diplomat to the protests, riots and civil wars that inflicted the region since 2010, and has sat in on meetings with many heads of state and policy makers. Currently, she holds the position of Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Bahrain in London.
In her spare time, Hayfa enjoys writing short stories, collecting textiles, and travelling.
Hayfa holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Economics from the University of Virginia and a Master’s Degree in Politics of the World Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
