Biography

Kongngy is a social entrepreneur from Cambod. He is , 32, background in sociology and MA in Development Studies. He has devoted himself not to have job for nearly for years to developed a social business called “My Dream Home”. The overall goal of making this social enterprise is goes beyond solving the problem of shelter shortage but employment and environment aspects in Cambodia. It is envisioned that every Cambodia citizens has decent home to live. At My Dream Home, we commit to produce eco-friendly bricks that need not burning process with excellent quality, reliability and longer service life of interlocking bricks.

There is a huge need of sustainable building in Cambodia. Government figures show that by 2030 Cambodia will need 1.5 million new houses, mainly for the poor and middle-income class. As MDH is the first specialized social enterprise in Cambodia providing affordable housing we project to be able to secure at least 10% of the total market. As understand, Cambodia uses old system of buildings that normally is expensive and harmful to environment. High price, bad sanitation, insecurity and overcrowding are the common problems that the national have been facing.

My Dream Home develops interlocking bricks similar to the concept behind the famous Lego bricks. The bricks are made from local materials that are abundant everywhere in Cambodia. When put together to form a building, interlocking bricks use less cement, are less labour intensive, take less time and - most importantly - are 20-40% cheaper than traditional bricks. In addition, the bricks are more resistant to strong winds, pests and fire. Our product has been designed with our client/beneficiary in mind. All costs have been reduced to a minimum to allow for affordable bricks that poorer families can afford. Our team met with families from different communities and they all expressed interest in these bricks. We also have free design and consultation for building houses for the poor
