Dr. Sara Ruto is currently Director of the Citizen Led Assessments (CLA) International, a unit whose core responsibility is to complement the country efforts of the nine countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America and contribute to global communication and advocacy in order to consolidate the centrality of learning and measurement in policy and practice of elementary education. Prior to serving in this position, Sara initiated the citizen led process in Kenya in 2009 that currently operates as Uwezo. She later moved on and served as Regional Manager of Uwezo East Africa, a citizen-driven initiative in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, that uses evidence to draw public attention to children’s learning. Prior to joining Uwezo, Sara was a lecturer at Kenyatta University. She sits in several committees/boards, such as Women Educational Researchers of Kenya and the Global reading network. She trained as a teacher in Kenyatta University in Kenya, and got her doctorate degree from Heidelberg University in Germany.
